¿Qué se sabe de Hargreeves? Lo que vimos al principio es que, como su única misión era adoptar a los niños y entrenarlos, fue más un director que un padre. Por esta razón, la mayoría de sus hijos crecieron resentidos con él. ¿QUIÉN ES EXACTAMENTE REGINALD HARGREEVES?
Reginald Hargreeves es en realidad un extraterrestre disfrazado de empresario adinerado. Los cómics han compartido bastante sobre su historia de origen, pero la serie apenas está comenzando a contarnos más sobre él.
1. LA HISTORIA DEL ORIGEN DE REGINALD HARGREEVES EN LOS CÓMICS
El origen de Reginald en los cómics es el mismo que se vio en la adaptación para Netflix: su planeta natal fue devastado por la guerra nuclear, por lo que viajó a la Tierra en busca de refugio en el siglo XX. Reginald Hargreeves se camufló de humano y convivió en la sociedad como un científico, inventor, empresario de fama mundial e incluso medallista de oro olímpico. También es conocido como ‘El Monóculo’, debido al monóculo mágico que usa que le permite ver la verdadera naturaleza de las personas.
Reginald Hargreeves fundó “The Umbrella Academy” con la intención de formar un equipo de superhéroes que algún día salvarían el mundo. Su nombre hace referencia al apocalipsis en la temporada 1 de la serie; sin embargo, nunca ha estado del todo claro cómo Reginald sabía que los bebés que adoptó eran dorados o que un apocalipsis se avecinaría. 2. LO QUE REVELÓ LA TEMPORADA 1 DE “THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY” SOBRE REGINALD
La temporada 1 se centra en la reunión y disolución de “The Umbrella Academy”, y Reginald es el motivo de ambos eventos. Los primeros episodios revelan lo frío y distante que es con sus hijos adoptivos. Los veía estrictamente como herramientas para detener el apocalipsis, por lo que nunca mostró sus sentimientos hacia los niños. Asimismo, en el final de la entrega, también muestra una coincidencia con el cómic: Reginald es un extraterrestre. Lo que vimos fue a un Hargreeves en un planeta despidiéndose de su amor, luego abre un frasco de orbes dorados que flotan hacia el cielo. La escena muestra su llegada a la Tierra en la década de 1920 mientras se prepara para comprar una empresa de fabricación de paraguas, que finalmente es lo que le hizo millonario.
En última instancia, la temporada 1 de “The Umbrella Academy” solo proporcionó pequeños indicios sobre los orígenes de Reginald Hargreeves. En tanto, la segunda temporada del programa comienza a colocar las piezas del rompecabezas en su lugar.

3. LO QUE REVELÓ LA TEMPORADA 2 DE “THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY” SOBRE REGINALD
La temporada 2 nos lleva a la década de 1960, donde los protagonistas se encuentran con una versión más joven de Reginald. Los hermanos Hargreeves descubren algo sorprendente sobre su padre cuando finalmente lo conocen: él es, de hecho, capaz de amar.
Por otro lado, en la temporada 1 conocimos a la "mamá" robótica de los niños, Grace. Resulta que el robot se parece a una mujer de la que estaba muy enamorado en 1960. Dado que Reginald se vio impulsado a crear una copia robótica de ella, es seguro asumir que su historia de amor terminó en tragedia.
Pero “The Umbrella Academy” todavía no está al tanto de la revelación más importante de todas. Gran parte de la trama de la temporada 2 se centra en la participación del hombre en el asesinato de JFK. Se reveló que estaba trabajando junto a una organización secreta conocida como Majestic 12. Como Reginald no quería ver asesinado a JFK, intentó romper los lazos con la organización, quienes no tomaron de buena manera la renuncia y lo amenazaron con revelar su secreto. Como respuesta a las amenazas, se quita la máscara para revelar su forma alienígena y mata a los miembros de Majestic 12.
Finalmente, si bien la serie revela información sobre el personaje, la forma de hacerlo solo lleva a más preguntas. Está claro que Reginald es un extraterrestre con algún tipo de poder y un pasado potencialmente desgarrador. Pero el alcance completo de su origen y su conexión con The Umbrella Academy aún está por verse.
Para llenar los vacíos, es seguro asumir que la temporada 3 de la serie de Netflix se sumergirá en la nueva línea de tiempo de Reginald y los orígenes de Sparrow Academy. En el camino, los hermanos Hargreeves finalmente pueden descubrir la verdad sobre los orígenes de su padre.

¿QUÉ PASARÁ EN LA TEMPORADA 3 DE “THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY”?
Al final de la segunda temporada de ”The Umbrella Academy”, los Hargreeves evitaron una tragedia, pero alteraron el rumbo de la historia y en una tercera entrega tendrán lidiar con las consecuencias. Por lo pronto, solo se mostró a un versión más joven de Ben, tal vez el resto sean versiones del resto o algunos de los 43 niños que nacieron el mismo día.
El director Steve Blackman adelantó: “Va a ser muy complicado para los hermanos de la Academia Umbrella. Ya no tienen su hogar, su padre está vivo y bien, lo cual no debería ser, así que no hace falta decir que habrá una locura familiar más destructiva”.
