By now, fans have feasted their eyes upon the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale on Disney+ and have been, for the most part, very satisfied with the results that they were fed.
Fair warning, spoilers are ahead for anyone who has yet to see the ending of the series.
Star Wars fans have been absolutely satisfied that they got to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader duel once again, a “Hello, there” from the protagonist, and a ghost cameo from Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn.
While all of that has made the series probably the best in the saga, there is still a glaring elephant in the room that has yet to be resolved inside of the writer’s room: Why is it that the Grand Inquisitors were so keen on going after Obi-Wan and not Yoda instead?
It seems like an inconsequential detail in the plot but it makes an ardent Star Wars fan wonder if the creators thought this all the way through with respect to the characters and the lore of the saga.
Realizing that the Inquisitors were once Jedi Knights who were turned to the dark side, one would think that Master Yoda’s reputation as being one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy would be more than enough of a reason to go after him rather than Kenobi as the latter poses less of a threat by comparison.
It’s also strange that the inquisitors were able to locate Kenobi on Tatooine but could not find Yoda on his self-imposed exile in the Dagobah system. It makes a fan question why Kenobi was deemed a bigger prize than the master that taught him and trained him.
It could be that Yoda’s presence went into obscurity more so than Kenobi’s but that would be a hard sell, as Yoda was still the more powerful of the two and, being force-wielders, the inquisitors should have sensed the green Jedi’s presence.
Maybe, if there’s a season two, we might get to see our little, green friend once more.
The Grand Inquisitors were scared of Yoda
One theory as to why the Inquisitors didn’t go after Yoda may be because they were scared of him. It has been confirmed inplenty ofStar Warsmedia that Yoda is plenty more powerful in the force than Obi-Wan and his skills with a lightsaber have rivaled that of Count Dooku and Emperor Palpatine.
It also makes sense that since Yoda is probably just as powerful if not more powerful than Darth Vader, the Inquisitors would not want to make an enemy of him since they also revere and fear Vader for his abilities in the force and wielding such power.
In other words, it would be a wise decision for the Inquisitors not to go after the Jedi as he may easily cut them down to ribbons.
In a more well-thought out answer, Vader seems to still be bitter that Kenobi bested him in battle on Mustafar all those years ago and used the Grand Inquisitors to specifically find Kenobi instead of Yoda. Not to mention Vader and Yoda never seemed to have any personal bad blood.
When realizing this notion, it seems obvious why Vader made Kenobi a high priority. Vader’s goal was revenge and he was hoping to finally achieve that through Kenobi’s downfall. Kenobi defeated the dark lord again at the end of the sixth episode of the spin-off series which only furthered Vader’s rage towards him. This is probably why Yoda is left untouched and perfectly safe.
