English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Peaceful Days” - Bubbleblabber (2)

Posted on May 4, 2024 by David Kaldor

With things having calmed down since Walpurgis, Rimiru and the rest of Tempest assess their new expanded territory and resources, beginning work on even further expansion with the neighboring groups.

Oddly enough, this felt more like a Season Premiere kind of episode plot than the previous two. This is partly because it actually involves the central cast in it, but also because it feels like it’s getting everyone, including the audience, back up to speed with everything major that just occurred (and in a much more organic way than simply having a cheap ass recap episode). The last two are fine episodes on their own, and are definitely crucial to the plot building down the line, but they definitely felt like just checking in with less important stuff outside of the main territory of Tempest. I’m glad we’re getting to it now though, and I’m actually surprised how interested I am in seeing how the country of Tempest develops. Going through the first two seasons (at a pretty speedy clip I might add), I couldn’t really bring myself to be all that invested in what Rimiru was doing or how he was gathering friends and allies, though that was mainly because it seemed like something he was managing with strange ease and lack of effort. Now, however, things have moved onto a much grander scale, with Rimiru taking on a greater level of power and influence.

In addition, we see that many of the characters have developed independent connections beyond their fealty to Rimiru. And don’t get me wrong, we’ve had no reason to think of Rimiru as anything less than a great leader (although how easy he takes to that early on is another one of my annoyances), so I totally believe that those under him rightfully believe in his choices and causes. But early on, their loyalty to him was basically the ENTIRETY of their character beyond some surface level personality traits. In fact, certain characters STILL are basically just summed as “loyal to Rimiru”, among them Diablo and Shion, the latter of whom went through on off screen death AND resurrection last season with no considerably change to her personality, mindset, or even design, even though the death and resurrection itself was important for future developments for OTHER characters. Basically what I’m saying is that I am starting to see this series move in some more interesting directions that I was initially worried it wouldn’t feel the need to. Maybe all it needed to do was finally get into more macro storytelling. Either way, looking forward to where we go next!

I hope it's not Crunchyroll; if they really cared about the franchise much, Volume 10 would have already been announced a long time ago.

If people didn't like a show they probably wouldn't stick around for the next. Also there's a lot less drama for this season than the last. Also the show was pretty damn bad.

Season Review: Velma Season Two

Ulf Claesson-

Why is a third season unlikely? The first season, for all the hatred it got (and I liked it!), attracted quite a huge audience, a substantial part of which is likely to return (to bitch and moan if nothing else, even though this season seems to be getting much better reviews.. so far), so unless the viewership for season two plummets (whichisunlikely, as many will have a morbid curiosity in seeing how this season turn out) I think a third season is quite likely. And as I said, I liked season one. So bring it on. You know, I think this incarnation of the show actually will grow into a cult classic in years to come, pretty much likeMystery Inchas (nocomparison, just pointing out that it, too, was met with less than enthusiasm at first, something which has definitely changed in recent years.)
